A Simple Drive Home One Evening Turned into an Incredible Act of Heroism
Mooresville, NC (June 2, 2009) – Malik Isaiah's introduction into the world was less than perfect: He was almost born on the Jubliee Bridge in Nashville, TN. It was Easter morning, and Herman Patton was driving to church when he noticed a car stopped on the wrong side of the bridge. He quickly pulled over and realized how severe the situation was. Cynthia Price was in labor and losing blood fast.
Price had gone into labor and was driving herself down Jefferson Street to Baptist Hospital. Along the way she became disoriented and started losing blood. In her semi-conscious state of mind, Price ended up on the wrong side of the road. When Patton came to her aid he noticed the blood soaked seat and realized the baby was coming; feet first.
At 7:30 am Patton placed the call to 911 from the bridge. 30 minutes later Malik Isaiah was introduced to the world at Baptist Hospital.
According to the nurses at the hospital, if Herman Patton hadn’t stopped that Easter morning it is very likely that Cynthia Price would have bled to death.
Patton stopped by the hospital that following Tuesday to visit mom and new baby, “we hugged, we cried," said Patton.
For his heroic and selfless act, Herman Patton will be recognized as this week’s Incredible Hero at Nashville Superspeedway.
